hello all.....

the programming track really pays off quickly. i converted another few engines to dcc before they get some more or less heavy weathering. lots of grime, rust, oily black and similar. didn't take the windows out on some units as they will never be in the lead on my cp rail subdivision. a bnsf c44-9w gave me a hart time to get it running. first i had intermittent contact issues which took me a while to figure out what is going on. in the end i ended up with slightly hammering down the front tabs of the frame which makes contact to the decoder. sounds familiar. but so far i never had these issues with the c44-9w drives. strange. but now contact issues are gone. just to find out the loco will derail even on straight track. seems like it is riding on the center axle of the front truck only. first i found the contact tabs in the trucks were not correctly placed. fixed it but it still kept derailing. so back to the workbench. then i noticed i installed the front truck reversed.... stupid me. quick fix and off she goes. lead engine of a cleaning train. ran smooth around almost all of the layout just to derail at a turnout. rerailed the unit and sent it to another round. derailed in the same spot again and again.
finally noticed a light kink in the track. no other engine derailed on that spot. not even my 2-engines/54-cars/2-engines/28-cars coal train.
straightened the track by slipping in a screwdriver between track and trackbed. no more derailments :-)

yesterday i installed the base for the backdrops at the south-east end of the layout. of course one of the pieces was too short. oh well.....

today i removed the walls of the north-west end of the layout. i no longer liked the way the wall looked. i will install the same kind of backdrop base as on the rest of the layout. no more angled plywood but flexed fiberboard (mdf) instead. looks much better to have a curved background instead of an angled one.

also another rolling thunder system has been installed today. however, receiption of the sound signal is not yet as good as it should be. will have to relocate the receiver and find the best spot.

next week i will order the stuff for the remaining backdrop base. hopefully i will be able to install it in the coming few weeks. backdrops are ordered and i might receive first drafts in the next few days. total lenght of ordered backdrops is almost 200ft !! will cost me an arm and a leg.
