hello all
as mentioned last week i will paint 4 sd70mac into the kcs "grey" paint scheme. work started recently. after disassembly i sandblasted the body, cab, handrails, sills, trucks and tanks. not really a lot of work and not challenging at all.

then today i airbrushed body, cab and parts of the sill grey. tank, handrails, trucks were painted black.

after letting the paint dry for a while i masked the roof of the cab and the body. especially the roof of the long hood was easier than i expected. the black part on the cab was even easier. once again i just masked the angled parts of the cab and a piece of masking tape on top of the nose. leaving everything else uncovered. to avoid spraying black on unwanted areas i held the airbrush at a flat angle towards the edge. if executed properly and with a bit of luck this results in a sharp edge. haven't used this technique for quite a while i was astonished it worked perfectly. the only thing missing is the black anti glare on the nose. this would be tricky but doable. done that before. but this time i decided to take the easy route and use decals. after searching the web for a few minutes i found a decal sheet with appropriate anti glares. screen shot, some cutting, some magic and i am able to print my own decals. i guess i will find the time next week. i need to print cab numbers, numberboards and some warning labels anyways. i did not yet start with applying decals. instead i reassembled the trucks and installed them in the drives. during this task i also installed digitrax dn147k1c. as usual i soldered the motor tabs in place and replaced the rear led with a longer one. finally i programmed the decoders. test-running the drives will follow next week.
here's a pic of the current states of the shells.
