been out for holidays. still managed to finish some garden work and find some time to work on the layout.

after getting more wood i continued building the wall aka scenic divider which will hold the spiral tunnels.
upper main will just circle once before crossing itself with a separation of 3". due to the 24" radius i could keep the grade at almost exactly 2%. from the lower to the upper layer of the layout the upper main has a constant 2%. it is supposed to be used for downhill trains only. lower mail will rise at a constant 1% and therefore will need a lot more track to reach the same height. this is why it will have two spiral tunnels crossing itself twice. same as cp rails famous spiral tunnels. lower main will be used for uphill trains.
once the two mainlines join each other they will continue at 1% until they take the curve to come on top of the main yard. they will then each feature a long siding while leading straight along the yard.

stay tuned to see more progress !
