For anyone interested, I just got an e-mail from Kato this afternoon (Wednesday, July 17th). They are going to release the Heritage units this fall.

So far, only the 156 and the 66 have been announced, but it looks like the others will follow. They didn't say anything about AMTK 42, the newly-painted Veteran unit.
I'm not planning to buy any of the new Kato units, but I'm still interested in hearing how these things run with the twin motors. |

Well, I took the plunge and got the current Heritage units, AMTK 156 and AMTK 66. They are really nice! Got them last Friday (February 7th). They ran beautifully right out of the box. But, after the first hour or so of running, they started to surge and lag wildly... same as the other three. I did "the fix" on their wheel wipers, and these Heritage units are now running like a dream. Also had to retorque one of the motors on AMTK 66, to adjust its alignment.
Same as before, I don't know why these fixes work, but they DO work. I don't know the mechanical ins and outs of it. It just works. In the case of the wheel wipers, they really need help to ensure their bases maintain constant contact with the truck's inner sideframe. Without doing "the fix", which is to bend the arms just slightly above the horizon (and also bend the base inward a tad), the base (lower center) will not keep constant contact. Unaltered, the wheel wipers have lateral play to them, allowing their bases to lose contact with the inner sideframes. When that happens, motor performance suffers. At least, that's been the case with me.
