long time since the last wwr... mostly due to beeing absent for holidays. also not too much done in the last 3 weeks.

but today i finished another 'the canadian' ! i took a kato california zephyr, stripped off the lettering, airbrushed the typical blue stripe for via rail. painted the underbody black as well as the trucks. had to sandblast the trucks to make the paint stick a bit more but it still tends to chip off
after decaling i weathered the cars maybe a tad too much. also the windows have been tinted slightly blue. i used tamiya clear blue x-23. of course there are quite a few passengers inside. ultra-cheap chinese figures had their legs cut off and are glued onto the seats. finally i installed kato light kits. thought i am clever and bent the contact strips a bit to improve contact. after test-running the cars i noticed some of them not sitting straight on the track. wtf ?? this was cause by the contact strips of the lights. after straightening them again the cars now sit upright on their wheels. for some of the cars i used the led-version of the light kits, others received the light-bulb system. also i noticed a lot of unwanted uncoupling. seems like the kato couplers get worse from production run to production run. fortunately i had some really old couplers (from the smoothside cars) left over. after changing the couplers the whole train now stays coupled.

here are the car names/numbers i just finished :

baggage : 8602
domes : skyline 8506, skyline 8508, skyline 8509, skyline 8510
sleepers : 8212 chateau latour, 8322 drummond manor, 8327 fraser manor, 8333 lorne manor
diner : 8405 cartier
dome observation : kootenay park

another nice addition to my growing via fleet. these are the cars i did some time back :

baggage : 2731, 8622
domes : skyline 8504, skyline 8505, skyline 8507, skyline 8511
sleepers : 8216 chateau levis, 8319 dawson manor, 8328 grant manor, 8330 hunter manor
diners : 8401 acadian, 8402 alexandra
dome observation : banff park
coaches : 8143, 8145

a final set of california zephyr cars are supposed to become :
VIA 2732 ????
VIA 8501 Skyline
VIA 8502 Skyline
VIA 8516 Skyline
VIA 8503 Skyline
VIA 8338 Rogers Manor
VIA 8341 Thompson Manor
VIA 8408 Empress
VIA 8101
VIA 8324 Dunsmuir Manor
VIA 8707 Kokanee Park

looks good sandro

i ve managed to get most wiring done on the spiral tunnels section that i moved into the other room, havent started rebuilding the other room yet, wiring is almost done on the tunnels, got more track to lay still and then on to the backdrops before starting scenery
will post pics when i get a chance, passing sidings will hold 25 - 30 car train with 2-3 locomotives, did some test running with some dc locomotives on the track, the via katos run very well on dc, im looking forward to running them on dcc once decoders are installed.
