work continued on the few sd40-2 units. the following units received all the necessary detail parts and body modifications : - cp rail sd40-2 #5577 - cp rail sd40-2 #5420 - cp rail sd40-2 #5677 - cp rail sd40-2 #5742
the last two units received some of the parts. - cp rail sd40-2 #5620 - cp rail sd40-2 #5640
oh, here's a first glimpse of #5640...
i also spent some time working on the landscape around the yard office and main station. after 'seeding' grass with my grassmaster i added a few bushes along the road. weathering the pavement with acrylic wash to enhance the look of the road was another task done.
last but not least via rails 'the canadian' ran around the layout for approx 3 hours without any issues. cp rail manifest 174 had a few derailments due to the crappy fox valley steel wheels. so back to microtrains plastic wheels.
as usual some stupid thoughts popped up during the work sessions on saturdays. such as adding small layout extensions, new projects and such. well, grand canyon railways uses former rdc-1 with the engine and engine compartment removed. i decided to build one. while talking about rdc units i took out my cp rail rdc combo. did run a bit jerky but i guess they will smooth out after a while. hadn't run them for years.
You have decided to do that "tunnel motor" elephant ears CP engine ?
After more than a year without working on the layout, I was able to finally built my dam...
I did not work on the layout because we had a flood in our basement. I had to re-do the entire floor, rooms and bathroom. The layout was spared by jacking it to fix the floor...
Here is the picture of my small dam:
