just considered fooling y'all because of the date. but then, there aren't too many readers and responders. oh well. guess i just write my usual blahblah instead.
9 more f40ph have been stripped and sandblasted. while sandblasting i noticed a strong smell of burned oil. seems like my compressor almost got toasted. for some noise reduction i wrapped foam around it which obviously eliminated cooling. no problem if it runs only occasionally. but sandblasting a few shells made the compressor run quite often. i removed all foam and checked the unit. seems like it will make it a few more months.... just can't afford a silent one. they start at $1800 ....
anyways, the shells are ready for primer. at least i thought they're ready. until my train buddy conviced me not to do a basic paint job. so here we go for an 'almost-fully-loaded paint job'. these units will receive : - gmm lift rings - blma fans - blma grab irons - miniatures by eric horns - have the original kato horns removed and the opening filled with putty - aircondition - winterization hatch - and finally 2 of the most beautiful sinclair antennas in the world
but i will not do the handrails. just too much work. bending 10 handrails per unit. unfortunately there's nothing available on the market. after deciding to add all these details i started work immediately. 4 units are done already. then i ran out of parts. as usual.
