...work started on 22 of my sd70acu kits ! as the plastic parts are 3d printed there are quite a few supporting structures to remove from cab, shell, front pilot. all these parts are cleaned, sanded and ready for test-fitting. sounds like little success but markus and me were working for approx 4 hours so far ! next steps are test-fitting of cab, pilot and shell, then drilling of hundreds of holes for all detail parts starts.
while working on the kits the usual coal train was running in circles. a lap with an average speed of aprox 55km/h (35mph) takes almost exactly 11 minutes ! running for 5 hours means 28 laps of 60meters each. 1.68km in total (a tad more than 1 mile). reduced to scale this equals to 268.8km or 167 miles.
it is amazing how smooth and trouble free this long trains runs. 3 engines, 60 cars, 2 engines, 24 cars. not a single derailment or uncoupling.
pics of the build process of the sd70acu kits will follow tomorrow.
