after snow, cold and grey weather it seems like spring finally arrives. some sunny and quite warm days made me work in the garden. chipped wood has been deployed wherever needed. also a few bushes and trees have been cut back.

of course i also spent some time in my train room. received two very old minitrix h12-44. shells are in good shape but the drives needed a really good cleaning. using an ultrasonic cleaner usually does the job. some polishing of the commutator and both units are as good as new. now i need to figure out how to install a decoder before i give them both a paint job. since canadian pacific never had this type of engine i will paint them in soo line colors.

i also fiddled around with my boulder creek engineering defect detecors. somehow they don't work as "designed". jim from bce is a really friendly and helpful guy. guess we will sort out things pretty quick. from the same company i received two infrared detectors for my trackside speed controler. the south end downhill route now checks the speed of the trains. an alarm sounds if they're too fast. makes sense since runaway trains are no fun ! at the end of the long downhill track i installed a defect detector. it will catch any hot brakes or bearings (aka hot box).
